In Thessaloniki, Greece, the ITHACA partners convened for a significant plenary meeting on December 4th – 5th, 2023, hosted by CERTH. This gathering served as a pivotal platform to exchange insights on project progress, achievements, and potential workflow challenges.

The meeting commenced with a warm welcome from Konnektable, the Project Coordinator, setting the stage for an unveiling of nearly twelve months’ worth of accomplishments and future plans presented by the Work Package Leaders. Key discussions encompassed various areas:

  1. State-of-the-art and conceptualization (Work Package 1)
  2. Algorithmic risk assessment and human-centered design (Work Package 2)
  3. ITHACA platform design and development (Work Package 3)
  4. Pilots’ implementation & evaluation (Work Package 4)
  5. Conformity assessment tools, policy recommendations, and guidelines (Work Package 5)
  6. Dissemination, Communication, and Exploitation (Work Package 6)
  7. Project Management (Work Package 7)
  8. Ethics Requirements (Work Package 8)

The meeting also evaluated the creation of citizens’ juries and introductory workshops in Martin (Slovakia) and Brasov (Romania), preparing for the project’s next phase – the second round of workshops focusing on assessing AI’s societal impact on civic participation.

Post discussions, the consortium enjoyed a tour of the CERTH Lab, showcasing cutting-edge facilities dedicated to technologies for a secure energy future and a sustainable environment.

Stay tuned as we progress toward a more inclusive and ethical AI-driven democratic landscape.
